M. Elena Renda is an IT researcher within the WiNeMA Research Team at IIT - CNR in Pisa, Italy. She currently is a visiting scholar within the Mobility Lab at MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP), Cambridge (MA), USA.
She holds the Laurea Degree in Computer Science from the University of Pisa, and the Ph.D. Degree in Information Engineering from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento in Pisa.
She has been a research associate at the Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell'Informazione - CNR in Pisa, from 2001 till 2005, and, since 2005, she is a researcher at the Istituto di Informatica e Telematica - CNR in Pisa. During the Ph.D. she spent seven months as visiting researcher at the Language Technologies Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. During 2013 - 2014 she also spent a year as a visiting scholar at the BarabásiLab - Center for Complex Networks Research, Northeastern University - Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
She started her research career working within the Information Retrieval field, to later include P2P and Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks, Wireless Mesh Community Networks, and efficient and scalable algorithms for Bioinformatics applications. She is currently actively (and enthusiastically!) involved in several projects related to Intelligent Transportation Systems and Smart Cities, working in particular on new mobility paradigms (i.e. sharing mobility) and their social effects.
