IGF - Internet Governance Forum

Internet Governance Forum United Nations

The Institute of Informatics and Telematics of CNR in Pisa is one of the main organizers and supporters of the forum on the Internet Governance.

The Internet Governance Forum is a global platform in which the representatives of governments, business and civil society, on an equal level, discuss freely about the current and future challenges related to the use and management of the Internet.

The forum is one of the main results emerging from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2005) held in 2003 and in 2005 in Geneva and Tunis respectively. At that time  (as it is now) the management of the Internet Governance remains one of the most controversial issues of the global information society.

In February 2015, through the European Parliament resolution on the renewal of the mandate of the Forum on Internet Governance (2015/2526 (RSP)) the General Assembly of the United Nations is asked to renew the mandate of the IGF and to support the resources and the multistakeholder model of Internet governance.
