Greening the Internet

Internet-related energy consumption is a increasingly significant portion of total energy consumption in the major industrialized countries. Internet was designed without considering its impact on energy, resulting in high economic and social costs; thus future Internet design must also take into consideration any constraints and costs related to energy consumption. This research applies knowledge and skills acquired in the design and development of energy-efficient solutions for mobile networks, extending and modifying them for heterogeneous and integrated networks with wired and wireless network components.
