G8 Internet working group - Italian coordination of issues related to the Internet (2011)

The issues of Internet governance have been discussed at the G8 Summit held in May 2011 in Deauville, France. To prepare the summit a dedicated "G8 Internet Working Group" was created, consisting of a Digital Sherpa and a Deputy Digital Sherpa for each member state. For Italy the Digital Sherpa was Minister Gian Luigi Benedetti, and the Deputy Digital Sherpa Eng. Stefano Trumpy.

The meeting "e-G8 Forum", was held in Paris on 24 and 25 May 2011, with the focus on "The Internet: Accelerating the development."  The main topics covered were:

• Internet as a key driver for economic growth;
• The birth of a global digital citizenship;
• Digital technologies of the future;
• The best way to promote innovation clusters;
• The mobile revolution and its impact on trade, media and advertising;
• Privacy and protection of intellectual property rights.

The CNR, through IIT, welcomed the request received by the Prime Minister to provide technical and scientific support to the Government in relation to the issues of the Internet Governance.
