ALPHA - eAsy inteLligent servi e Platform for Healthy Ageing

The ALPHA project aims at developing an intelligent situation-aware system to collect and process information about Alzheimer Disease patients’ lifestyle, starting from various data provided by caregivers and a set of non-invasive sensors and devices. ALPHA will provide clinicians with new quantitative and semantic information about patients’ behaviour which, along with medical data, will enhance the accuracy and reliability of monitoring and assessing the patient’s health status. Clinicians will be supported by a suite of specially designed tools and interfaces to analyze the metadata that was captured, improve the management of personalised care plans and better interact with patients and caregivers. The combination between clinical data of neurogenetic research and historical archives of former psychiatric hospitals will allow the rebuilding of the genealogical evolution of contemporary neuropsychiatric genetic diseases to probabilistically determine the possible manifestation of the disease. 

The activity is in collaboration with the CSM of Girifalco (Cz, Italy).

The collaboration with the CSM of Girifalco has the aim of define a new risk profiling model through historic heritage.  This task is part of the activities of the main project Alpha - (eAsy inteLligent service Platform for Healthy Ageing) technologies for elderly people - that aims to develop an intelligent situation - aware system to collect and process information about Alzheimer Disease (AD) patients’ lifestyle.

In this task a sample of data from quite 6000 medical records of the psychiatric hospitals no longer in use Girafalco (CZ) will be digitally acquired, using specific OCR technology and transcriptions of the medical records. This will allow the compilation of epidemiological models of genetic diseases through the use of advanced information technologies for the construction of a knowledge base evolved to the definition of risk profiles. A new risk profiling model will be defined through the combination between the clinical data of neurogenetic research, and archival/historical clinical data ensuing from the documentation of psychiatric hospitals no longer in use, which will allow the rebuilding of the genealogical evolution of contemporary neuropsychiatric genetic diseases so to determine, on a probabilistic base, the possible manifestation and/or evolution of the disease. In this context, the advice of the Regional Center of Neurogenetics of Lamezia Terme (CZ), which used this collection of information in a study carried out on AD, will be fundamental.

One of the particular characteristics of the model that we wish to bring forward lies in the combination between the clinical data of neurogenetic research, and archival historical clinical data ensuing from the scientific documentation of psychiatric hospitals no longer in use, which will allow the rebuilding of the genealogical evolution of contemporary neuropsychiatric genetic diseases in order to determine, on a probabilistic base, the possible manifestation and/or evolution of the disease.
