Eurid confirmed as manager of the TLD .eu

The non-profit company, of which the IIT-CNR is a board member, reconfirmed today as manager of .eu domain names by the European Commission

EURid, the non-profit company that manages the .eu TLD’s Registry, has been selected again by the European Commission to manage European domain names until 2027. After the first assignment in 2003 and subsequent confirmation in 2013, Europe renews its trust in this organization, managed by a Board of members of which the Institute of Informatics and Telematics has been a part since the foundation.

The Commission has the ultimate power to define principles for the implementation of the .eu TLD (including establishing eligibility criteria for the registration of .eu domain names), designation of the registry, and oversight of the registry.

In May of 2021, EURid submitted its application to the EC call to manage the .eu TLD registry. The application highlighted EURid`s achievements over the past 15 years as well as the vision and plans for the future. The four-month long selection process considered four eligible applicants.

“We feel honoured to have been chosen to continue to serve the .eu stakeholders,” stated Marc Van Wesemael, CEO of EURid. “EURid is an award-winning registry due in large part to the expertise of EURid’s staff, the great relations with our accredited registrar community and the international partnerships we built year after year. We have built a trustworthy brand and proven that even those working in cyberspace can do so in a sustainable manner. We will continue working at the highest standard and look forward to ensuring the .eu value for all Europeans.”
