Legal and Litigation Unit

The legal and litigation unit of the Registro .it (i.e the Italian Registry, hereafter the Registry) deals with the drafting and management of contracts for the registration of domain names in the ccTLD .it, from the setting up of the agreements, to contract management and debt recovery. This unit also:

• collaborates on technical regulation and legislation regarding procedures for registration and allocation of ccTLD .it domains.

• instructs on practices relating to applications for the accreditation of Service Providers relating to out-of-court settlement of disputes. These are the institutions accredited by the Registry for the extrajudicial resolution of disputes concerning domain names,

• takes care of disputes regarding the allocation of the aforementioned domain names in collaboration with the Italian National Research Council and the competent State Attorney.

The unit follows Italian and international rules on domain names, with specific reference to the WIPO-WIPO ccTLDs and gTLDs, rights of intellectual and industrial property, data processing, and digital signatures. The unit carries out training for internal staff and the staff of Registrars regarding the legal aspects, regulations and contracts, and in general, on Internet law.
